Hygieneabwässern, also known as sanitary wastewater or domestic sewage, refers to the wastewater originating from residential buildings, public facilities, and commercial establishments. It primarily comprises used water from toilets, sinks, showers, and washing machines. The composition of hygieneabwässern typically includes a significant amount of organic matter, such as human excreta, food particles, and soap residues. Additionally, it contains various inorganic substances, suspended solids, and potentially harmful microorganisms like bacteria and viruses.

The management of hygieneabwässern is crucial for public health and environmental protection. Untreated or improperly treated wastewater can contaminate water sources, spread diseases, and harm aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, it is collected through sewer systems and directed to wastewater treatment plants.
