Haringvliet
Haringvliet is a large tidal basin in the southwest Netherlands, located between the provinces of South Holland and Zeeland. It is part of the larger Delta Works project, which aims to protect the Netherlands from flooding. The Haringvliet is a crucial part of this project, serving as a natural barrier against the North Sea. The basin is connected to the sea by the Haringvlietdam, a storm surge barrier that was completed in 1997. The Haringvliet is also home to several islands, including Voorne, Tholen, and Sint Philipsland, which are connected to the mainland by bridges and tunnels. The basin is an important habitat for various bird species and is a popular destination for recreational activities such as sailing and fishing. The Haringvliet is managed by the Dutch government and is subject to various regulations to protect its ecological value and ensure the safety of its inhabitants.
