Gyökérszolgálókig is a Hungarian term that translates to "to the root servers" or "root server" in English. In the context of the internet, it refers to the top-level hierarchical domain name system (DNS) servers. These servers are essential for the functioning of the internet's naming system, as they hold the authoritative records for the top-level domains, such as .com, .org, and country-specific domains like .hu.

When a user types a web address into their browser, the initial query is directed to a local DNS resolver. If this resolver does not have the IP address cached, it then queries the gyökérszolgálókig. These root servers do not store the IP addresses for all websites, but they know where to find the servers that manage the specific top-level domain requested. They then direct the query to the appropriate authoritative name server for that top-level domain. This process continues down the DNS hierarchy until the IP address for the requested website is found.

The gyökérszolgálókig are a critical piece of internet infrastructure. There are 13 logical root name servers, though they are physically distributed across many locations worldwide to ensure redundancy and performance.
