Gyökérszövetekhez refers to the tissues found within plant roots. These tissues are essential for the plant's survival, providing anchorage, absorbing water and minerals from the soil, and storing food reserves. The primary tissues of the root are organized into distinct layers. The outermost layer is the epidermis, which is responsible for protection and absorption. Root hairs, which are extensions of epidermal cells, greatly increase the surface area for water and nutrient uptake.

Beneath the epidermis lies the cortex, a region composed mainly of parenchyma cells. The cortex serves as a storage site for starch and other organic compounds. It also plays a role in the transport of water and minerals from the epidermis to the vascular tissues. The innermost layer of the cortex is the endodermis, characterized by the presence of Casparian strips. These bands of suberin within the cell walls regulate the movement of water and dissolved substances into the vascular cylinder, ensuring that all materials entering the stele must pass through the cell membranes of endodermal cells.

At the center of the root is the vascular cylinder, also known as the stele. This region contains the xylem and phloem, the plant's primary transport tissues. The xylem is responsible for conducting water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant, while the phloem transports sugars produced during photosynthesis from the leaves to the roots for storage or use. The arrangement of xylem and phloem in the root is typically radial, meaning that the xylem and phloem strands alternate with each other.
