Gyökércsúcs

Gyökércsúcs refers to the root apex, the very tip of a plant's root. This critical region is responsible for growth and anchoring the plant in the soil. It is covered by a protective layer of cells called the root cap, which shields the delicate meristematic tissue as the root pushes through the soil. Beneath the root cap lies the meristem, a zone of actively dividing cells that produces new root cells.

Just above the meristem is the zone of elongation, where cells expand in length, pushing the root further into the soil. Following this is the zone of differentiation, where cells mature and specialize into various tissues, including the epidermis (for protection and absorption), cortex (for storage), and vascular tissues (xylem and phloem) for transport of water, minerals, and nutrients. Root hairs, which are extensions of epidermal cells, also form in this zone, greatly increasing the surface area for water and nutrient uptake. The gyökércsúcs, therefore, encompasses all these functional areas, working in concert to ensure the plant's survival and growth.
