Gvardeysk
Gvardeysk is a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located on the Pregolya River. Its historical name was Tapiau, given by the Teutonic Knights when they conquered the region in the 13th century. Under Prussian rule, Tapiau became an important administrative and cultural center. After World War II, the territory was transferred to Soviet administration, and in 1946, the town was renamed Gvardeysk, meaning "Guard Town" in Russian, likely in recognition of its strategic importance.
