Greenhousegasemitting refers to the act or process of releasing gases into the Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. These gases, known as greenhouse gases (GHGs), include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gases. The primary mechanism by which GHGs operate is through the greenhouse effect, a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When sunlight reaches Earth, some of it is reflected back into space. The rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases as heat.

Human activities are the main drivers of increased greenhousegasemitting. The combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas for energy production, transportation, and industrial processes is the largest source of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Deforestation also contributes significantly, as trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Agriculture is a major source of methane through livestock digestion and rice cultivation, and nitrous oxide from fertilizer use. Industrial processes and the use of certain manufactured products release potent fluorinated gases.

The accumulation of these emitted gases in the atmosphere intensifies the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming and climate change. This warming can result in a range of environmental impacts, including rising sea levels, more frequent and intense heatwaves, changes in precipitation patterns, and disruptions to ecosystems.
