Gerjesztett

Gerjesztett is a Hungarian adjective and past participle formed from the verb gerjeszt, meaning to excite, stimulate, or arouse. In everyday language it can describe a person who is excited or aroused, but in scientific Hungarian it denotes a system that has received energy and occupies a higher energy level than its ground state, as in gerjesztett állapot (excited state).

In physics and chemistry, a gerjesztett state occurs when atoms, ions, or molecules absorb energy through light, heat, or particle collisions. The electrons move to higher energy levels, and the system is said to be gerjesztett. Such states typically relax back to the ground state, releasing energy as radiation in processes like fluorescence or phosphorescence. The term is central to spectroscopic techniques, photophysics, and laser operation.

Gerjesztett is also used in non-scientific contexts to describe excitement or arousal. In electronics or signal processing the word gerjesztő denotes an excitation source or stimulus that drives a device, and gerjesztett emisszió (stimulated emission) is the principle behind laser action, where an incoming photon stimulates emission from a higher-energy state.
