Fuusioräjäytyksiä, or fusion explosions, refer to the immense energy release that occurs during uncontrolled nuclear fusion reactions. While controlled nuclear fusion is a goal for clean energy production, uncontrolled fusion is the principle behind thermonuclear weapons, also known as hydrogen bombs. These devices utilize a fission bomb as a primary stage to generate the extreme temperatures and pressures necessary to initiate and sustain a fusion reaction in a secondary stage.

The fusion process typically involves isotopes of hydrogen, such as deuterium and tritium. This energy release is far greater than that of a fission explosion of comparable mass.
