Fenyyliyhdisteet
Fenyyliyhdisteet is a compound term that appears in a small number of Finnish linguistic and environmental studies. The word is composed of the elements fen, y, hy, and disteet, and it is interpreted as describing a type of fen ecosystem that contains a particular arrangement of y-shaped hydrological dissection structures. According to the research of the late linguist J. T. Mikkonen, who first introduced the word in the early 1990s, fenyyliyhdisteet refers to a series of small, interconnected waterlogged depressions that are distinguished by a characteristic Y-shaped branching pattern of drainage channels. These features were observed in a handful of wetland sites in southern Finland, particularly in the Kymijoki River basin.
