Fe3xO4
Fe3O4, also known as magnetite, is a mineral composed of iron and oxygen. Its chemical formula indicates it contains three iron atoms and four oxygen atoms per formula unit. Magnetite is a member of the spinel group, with a cubic crystal structure. It is one of the most magnetic minerals on Earth, exhibiting ferromagnetism. This strong magnetic property allows it to be attracted to a magnet and can also become a permanent magnet itself.
Naturally occurring magnetite is found in igneous and metamorphic rocks, as well as in sedimentary deposits.
