FMtíðni

FMtíðni refers to the frequency modulation technique used in radio broadcasting. Frequency modulation, or FM, is a method of encoding information in a carrier wave by varying its frequency. This is in contrast to amplitude modulation (AM), where the amplitude of the carrier wave is varied. FMtíðni is known for its higher fidelity and resistance to static and interference compared to AM.

In FMtíðni broadcasting, the audio signal, such as music or speech, is used to modulate the frequency of a radio wave. When the audio signal's amplitude increases, the frequency of the carrier wave increases slightly. Conversely, when the audio signal's amplitude decreases, the carrier wave's frequency decreases slightly. The amount of frequency deviation is proportional to the amplitude of the audio signal. This process allows for a wider range of frequencies to be transmitted, resulting in a richer sound quality.

FMtíðni radio operates in specific frequency bands, typically in the VHF (Very High Frequency) range. In Europe and many other parts of the world, this is the 87.5 to 108 MHz band. In North America, the band is slightly different. The use of FMtíðni for broadcasting became widespread in the mid-20th century due to its superior audio performance. It remains the primary standard for high-quality music radio transmission.
