Enzymkatalizált refers to a process that is accelerated by enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts, which means they speed up chemical reactions without being consumed in the process. They are typically proteins, although some RNA molecules can also act as enzymes. Enzymkatalizált reactions are fundamental to all known life and are responsible for countless metabolic processes within organisms.

The mechanism by which enzymes catalyze reactions involves binding to specific reactant molecules, known as substrates, at an active site. This binding forms an enzyme-substrate complex, which then facilitates the conversion of the substrate into product(s). Enzymes achieve this acceleration by lowering the activation energy required for the reaction to occur. They do this through various means, including orienting substrates correctly, straining substrate bonds, or providing a favorable microenvironment.

The specificity of enzymes is a key characteristic. Most enzymes catalyze only one or a very limited range of reactions, due to the precise three-dimensional shape of their active sites that complements the shape of their specific substrates. This specificity ensures that metabolic pathways proceed in an orderly and controlled manner. Enzymkatalizált reactions are also highly regulated within cells, allowing organisms to respond to changing conditions and maintain homeostasis. Many industrial processes also utilize enzymes for their catalytic efficiency and specificity, such as in the production of detergents, food processing, and pharmaceuticals.
