Degussa

Degussa was a German chemical company known for its long-standing Deutsche Gold- und Silber-Scheideanstalt. It was founded in 1873 in Frankfurt and grew into one of Germany’s leading chemical groups, diversifying from precious metals refining into chemicals, catalysts, pigments, and other specialty products. The name Degussa derived from its original function as a Deutsche Gold- und Silber-Scheideanstalt (German Gold and Silver Refinery). Over the years it expanded its operations domestically and internationally, developing processes for metal refining, fine chemicals, and high-value pigments.
