Brexitövergång
Brexitövergång refers to the transitional period that followed the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union on January 31, 2020. This period was designed to allow time for the UK and the EU to negotiate and establish the terms of their future relationship. During the Brexitövergång, which lasted until December 31, 2020, most EU laws continued to apply in the UK. This ensured that trade, travel, and other aspects of daily life remained largely unchanged while new agreements were being put in place. The primary objective was to avoid a sudden and disruptive break, providing a smoother adjustment for businesses, citizens, and governments on both sides. Key areas of negotiation included trade in goods and services, data protection, security cooperation, and the rights of citizens. The outcome of these negotiations was the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which came into effect on January 1, 2021, marking the end of the Brexitövergång and the beginning of a new era of UK-EU relations. The transitional arrangements were crucial for managing the complex process of disentangling the UK from decades of EU membership.
