Birán

Birán is a rural settlement in the province of Holguín, Cuba. It is most famous as the birthplace of Fidel Castro and his brother Raúl Castro, both prominent figures in Cuban history. The site has been preserved and developed into a museum complex, the Comandancia de Birán, which aims to depict the life and times of the Castro family and the historical context of their upbringing.

The museum features the restored houses where the Castro family lived, including the main house and the smaller house of the grandparents. Visitors can also see the old schoolhouse, the general store, and other structures that were part of the original settlement. Birán was once part of a large landed estate owned by Ángel Castro y Argiz, Fidel and Raúl's father, who was a successful landowner and businessman.
