Berührungsempfindung, also known as tactile sensation or the sense of touch, is one of the five classical senses. It encompasses a range of physical interactions with the environment, allowing us to perceive pressure, vibration, texture, temperature, and pain. Specialized receptors in the skin, known as mechanoreceptors, thermoreceptors, and nociceptors, detect these stimuli and send signals to the brain for interpretation.

The somatosensory cortex, located in the parietal lobe of the brain, is the primary area responsible for processing touch information. This complex system allows us to distinguish between different types of touch, locate the source of a sensation, and react appropriately. For instance, feeling the warmth of a cup or the sharpness of a pinprick are processed by this system.

Berührungsempfindung plays a crucial role in everyday life, aiding in object manipulation, spatial awareness, and social interaction. The ability to feel a handshake or a gentle pat on the back conveys emotional and social information. Furthermore, it serves as a vital protective mechanism, alerting us to potential harm, such as extreme temperatures or injuries. Deficits in tactile sensation can arise from various neurological conditions or injuries, impacting an individual's ability to interact with their surroundings safely and effectively.
