Basebåndet

Basebåndet refers to the range of frequencies occupied by a signal before it is modulated onto a carrier wave for transmission. It represents the fundamental frequency spectrum of the original information signal, such as audio or video. For instance, when you speak into a microphone, your voice creates sound waves that occupy a certain range of frequencies. This range is the baseband of your voice signal.

In telecommunications and signal processing, baseband signals are typically converted into a modulated signal for transmission over a communication channel. Modulation shifts the baseband signal to a higher frequency range, known as the passband, which is more suitable for propagation through the transmission medium, like radio waves or optical fibers. The baseband itself is the part of the signal that contains the actual information, without any carrier frequency being added.

Understanding the baseband is crucial for designing and analyzing communication systems. It helps determine the bandwidth required for a signal and how signals can be multiplexed together without interference. Different types of information have distinct baseband frequency characteristics. For example, voice signals typically have a baseband range from about 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz, while video signals occupy a much wider baseband.
