Antrumkörtlarna are glands located in the pyloric antrum of the stomach. The pyloric antrum is the lower part of the stomach, just before it connects to the small intestine. These glands are primarily responsible for producing and secreting mucus, which helps to protect the stomach lining from the acidic environment of the stomach. They also contain specialized cells, such as G cells, which produce gastrin. Gastrin is a hormone that stimulates the secretion of gastric acid by the parietal cells in other parts of the stomach. The mucus secreted by antrumkörtlarna also contains bicarbonate, which further neutralizes stomach acid in the immediate vicinity of the gastric lining, aiding in its defense. The coordinated function of antrumkörtlarna is essential for maintaining the integrity of the stomach wall and facilitating the initial stages of digestion.
