Akzessorentränendrüsen, also known as accessory lacrimal glands, are small glands located within the eyelids and conjunctiva. They are distinct from the main lacrimal gland, which is responsible for producing the majority of the tears. These accessory glands, primarily the glands of Krause and Wolfring, contribute to the basal tear film, which is essential for maintaining ocular surface lubrication and health.
