Adjektivitaivutus, also known as adjective declension, is the process by which adjectives change their form to agree with the noun they modify in terms of case, number, and gender. This linguistic phenomenon is found in many languages, including Finnish, Estonian, and Hungarian. In these languages, adjectives must match the noun they describe in case, number, and gender to ensure grammatical correctness and clarity.

For example, in Finnish, adjectives have 15 cases and two numbers (singular and plural). The adjective "iso" (big) changes its form depending on the noun it modifies. When describing a singular noun in the nominative case, "iso" remains "iso." However, when describing a plural noun in the nominative case, "iso" becomes "isot." Similarly, when describing a singular noun in the genitive case, "iso" becomes "ison," and when describing a plural noun in the genitive case, it becomes "isojen."

In Estonian, adjectives also change their form based on the noun they modify. For instance, the adjective "suur" (big) changes to "suured" when describing plural nouns in the nominative case. In Hungarian, adjectives have 19 cases and two numbers, and they change their form accordingly to match the noun they describe.
