írjon

írjon is a Hungarian verb form meaning write in a polite or formal imperative. It is derived from the verb írni (to write) and is used when addressing one person in a formal context, such as in business correspondence, official documents, or polite requests. In addition to the imperative, írjon can function as the present subjunctive in subordinate clauses (kötőmód), for example in sentences like “Azt szeretném, hogy írjon” (I would like you to write).

In terms of conjugation, írjon is the second-person formal singular imperative. The ordinary informal singular imperative is írj, while formal plural is írjanak. The form írjon is used to show respect or formality toward the person being addressed. Spelling follows Hungarian pronunciation, with the accent on í.

Common usage examples include: “Kérem, írjon nekem egy levelet.” (Please write me a letter.) or “Kérem, írjon alá ezt a dokumentumot.” (Please sign this document.) The form is also frequent in templates, instructions, and official inquiries where a courteous request is required.

Notes: írjon is not used for informal address; for informal singular, speakers typically use írj. For plural polite address, the corresponding form is írjanak. In written language, írósegélyként vagy a<v>thet, írjon előfordulhat still appears in formal clauses to express a request or directive.
