Öndunarkerfis

Öndunarkerfis is an Icelandic term that translates to "respiratory system" in English. It refers to the group of organs and tissues in the body responsible for the process of breathing, which involves the intake of oxygen and the expulsion of carbon dioxide. This system is essential for life, as oxygen is required for cellular respiration, the process that produces energy for the body's cells.

The primary components of the öndunarkerfis include the nasal cavity and mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and lungs. Air enters the body through the nasal cavity or mouth, where it is warmed, humidified, and filtered. It then passes through the pharynx and larynx, which contains the vocal cords.
