Underarmsmuskulatur, also known as the muscles of the forearm, refers to the collection of muscles located between the elbow and the wrist. These muscles are responsible for a wide range of movements in the hand and wrist. They are broadly categorized into anterior (front) and posterior (back) muscle groups, as well as muscles on the lateral (outer) side of the forearm.

The anterior forearm muscles are primarily involved in flexing the wrist and fingers, as well as pronating the forearm (turning the palm downwards). Key muscles in this group include the flexor carpi radialis, flexor carpi ulnaris, palmaris longus, flexor digitorum superficialis, and flexor digitorum profundus. These muscles originate from the medial epicondyle of the humerus and insert onto the bones of the wrist and fingers.

The posterior forearm muscles are mainly responsible for extending the wrist and fingers, as well as supinating the forearm (turning the palm upwards). Important muscles in this group are the extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis, extensor carpi ulnaris, extensor digitorum, and extensor digiti minimi. These muscles originate from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus and insert onto the bones of the wrist and fingers.

The lateral forearm muscles, such as the brachioradialis, assist in elbow flexion and contribute to forearm rotation. The coordinated action of these muscles allows for fine motor skills, gripping, and a significant portion of upper limb functionality. These muscles are crucial for everyday activities like writing, typing, and lifting objects.
