Description: Torpedoan individuals are streamlined, fusiform creatures typically 20 to 35 centimeters long, though larger forms appear in some works. They have a smooth, reflective skin and a powerful caudal fin for rapid bursts. Lateral lines and electroreceptors, along with concealed bioluminescent organs, enable navigation and signaling in dark waters.

Habitat: In fictional settings, torpedoans inhabit deep-sea and midwater zones around continental slopes and seamounts, at depths from about 200 to 1,000 meters, with occasional appearances in imagined abyssal realms.

Ecology: They are usually solitary ambush predators, relying on camouflage and sudden bursts to capture small fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods. Sensory systems include electroreception and chemical sensing; some stories endow them with modest problem-solving ability.

Reproduction: Reproduction is portrayed variably as broadcast spawning or ovoviviparity; lifespans range from several years to decades in longer universes. Larval stages are often planktonic before maturation.

In fiction: The torpedoan appears in worldbuilding guides and speculative zoology as an example of convergent evolution toward a torpedo-like body plan.
