Teststatistikvärdet, also known as the test statistic, is a numerical value calculated from sample data to assess the validity of a hypothesis in statistical hypothesis testing. It quantifies the difference between the observed data and what would be expected under the null hypothesis. The test statistic is used to determine whether to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis based on a predetermined significance level.

The choice of test statistic depends on the type of test being conducted. Common test statistics include the t-statistic for t-tests, the chi-square statistic for chi-square tests, and the F-statistic for ANOVA. Each test statistic has its own distribution under the null hypothesis, which is used to calculate the p-value, a measure of the evidence against the null hypothesis.

The test statistic is calculated using a formula specific to the test. For example, in a one-sample t-test, the test statistic is calculated as the sample mean minus the hypothesized population mean, divided by the standard error of the mean. In a chi-square test of independence, the test statistic is calculated as the sum of the squared differences between the observed and expected frequencies, divided by the expected frequencies.

Once the test statistic is calculated, it is compared to a critical value from the appropriate distribution to determine whether to reject the null hypothesis. Alternatively, the p-value can be calculated and compared to the significance level to make the same decision. If the test statistic falls in the rejection region or if the p-value is less than the significance level, the null hypothesis is rejected in favor of the alternative hypothesis.
