Tehnologie, or technology, is the application of scientific knowledge to create tools, processes, and systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities. In Romanian usage, tehnologiei is the genitive or dative form of tehnologie and appears in phrases such as progresul tehnologiei (the progress of technology).

Historically, technology emerged with early tools and has evolved through agricultural, industrial, and information revolutions. Key milestones include farming techniques, the steam engine, electrification, telecommunications, computing, and the internet. Modern technology encompasses information technology, biotechnology, energy technology, materials science, and robotics.

Technology affects economies, governance, and daily life. Benefits include increased productivity, access to information, and medical advances; however, challenges such as job displacement, privacy concerns, environmental impact, and unequal access to digital infrastructure require careful management. Responsible innovation involves safety standards, ethical guidelines, data protection, and transparent regulation.

Future trends include artificial intelligence, quantum computing, renewable energy, the Internet of Things, and autonomous systems. Societal questions focus on sustainability, equity, governance, and the balance between innovation and risk.
