Sechzig, or sixty, is the natural number that follows fifty-nine and precedes sixty-one. In German, the number is sechzig, formed from sechs (six) and the -zig suffix used for tens.

Mathematics: Sechzig is even and composite. Its prime factorization is 2^2 × 3 × 5, and it has twelve positive divisors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60.

Time and angles: In modern usage, sixty serves as a decimal-based anchor in timekeeping and geometry: there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour; a circle is divided into 360 degrees, i.e., six times sixty.

Historical and linguistic notes: The base-60, or sexagesimal, system originated in ancient Mesopotamia and influenced astronomy and mathematics; although most everyday arithmetic uses base-10, sexagesimal remains in minutes, seconds, and degrees.
