Säätöpoikkeama is a Finnish term that translates to "control deviation" or "regulation deviation" in English. It refers to the difference between a desired or setpoint value and the actual measured value in a control system. In essence, it's the error that a control system is trying to correct.

Control systems are designed to maintain a specific variable, such as temperature, pressure, or speed, at a desired level. This desired level is known as the setpoint. Sensors continuously measure the actual value of the variable being controlled. The difference between the setpoint and the measured value is the säätöpoikkeama.

For example, in a heating system, the setpoint might be 22 degrees Celsius. If the room temperature is measured at 20 degrees Celsius, there is a säätöpoikkeama of 2 degrees. The control system's objective is to minimize this deviation by activating heating elements or adjusting other parameters.
