Retinaglionsolujen, also known as retinal ganglion cells, are neurons located in the innermost layer of the retina. These cells are crucial for transmitting visual information from the eye to the brain. They receive processed visual signals from photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) via bipolar cells and amacrine cells. Each retinal ganglion cell integrates information from a specific receptive field within the retina.

The axons of the retinal ganglion cells bundle together to form the optic nerve, which exits the back of the eye. This optic nerve then carries the electrical signals to various visual processing centers in the brain, including the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus and the superior colliculus. Different types of retinal ganglion cells are specialized to detect different aspects of the visual scene, such as motion, contrast, and color. Their precise functioning is essential for our ability to perceive the world around us. Damage or dysfunction of these cells can lead to vision loss, as seen in conditions like glaucoma.
