przezbroje

Przezbroje is a Polish noun, used primarily in historical and technical contexts, to denote the refitting or re-equipping of equipment, weapons, or installations. The term is formed from the prefix prze- (often conveying change or through) and zbroje (armor or equipment), conveying the idea of outfitting anew. In its broader sense, przezbroje can refer to the overall process of changing or upgrading gear on a vehicle, fortress, ship, or industrial installation, as well as to the set of tools and fittings used to carry out such refits.

The word is most commonly encountered in historical military, naval, and industrial literature, including archival documents that describe rearmament, modernization, or retooling programs. In modern Warsaw or contemporary writing, the term is relatively rare and is typically replaced by more common expressions such as modernizacja (modernization), przebudowa (reconstruction/retrofitting), or remont (repair/overhaul).

In usage, through its emphasis on changing equipment, przezbroje can refer both to the act of refitting and to the resulting outfitting package or matériel required for the refit. Its appearance is thus tied to contexts where equipment or armament undergoes a deliberate update, upgrade, or substitution.
