muscoviet

Muscoviet is an English term that has appeared as an adjective and a noun referring to Muscovy, the historical region centered on Moscow, and to its people. In modern usage the form is considered archival or very rare. Contemporary English typically uses Muscovite as the demonym for residents of Moscow, or relies on Moscow-related descriptors for things connected with the city.

In historical writing, muscoviet might be found in older documents describing people from Muscovy or aspects linked to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. The term declined as terminology evolved and as references to Muscovy or Moscow shifted toward more standard forms in later periods.

Note that muscoviet is distinct from muscovite, the mineral name for a potassium aluminum silicate. The two terms are not interchangeable in geology, and muscoviet is not used as a mineral name.
