luminenssi
Luminenssi is a Finnish word that translates to luminous flux in English. It is a measure of the total quantity of visible light emitted by a source, or passing through a given area, per unit of time. The SI unit for luminous flux is the lumen (lm). One lumen is defined as the luminous flux of one candela (a unit of luminous intensity) through a solid angle of one steradian. Essentially, it quantifies how bright a light source appears to the human eye. Different light sources, such as incandescent bulbs, LEDs, and fluorescent lamps, will have different luminous flux ratings, even if they consume the same amount of electrical power. This is because the efficiency of converting electrical energy into visible light varies significantly between these technologies. When comparing light bulbs, the lumen output is a more accurate indicator of brightness than wattage, which primarily measures power consumption. Higher lumen values indicate a brighter light. Luminenssi is a fundamental concept in photometry, the science of measuring light.
