Lichtabsorberende refers to the property of a material to absorb light. When light strikes an object, some of it is reflected, some is transmitted, and some is absorbed. Lichtabsorberende materials are those that absorb a significant portion of the incident light across a specific range of wavelengths, or across the entire visible spectrum.

The mechanism of light absorption varies depending on the material. In general, light absorption occurs when the energy of the photons in the light matches the energy difference between electron energy levels within the material. In photography, light-absorbing materials are crucial for capturing images. In optical filters, specific light absorption is used to transmit or block certain wavelengths of light.
