legitimistas
Legitimistas, also known as Legitimists, were a political movement in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were named after the French royalist movement of the 1830s, which supported the claim of the House of Orléans to the French throne. The Legitimistas movement emerged in the aftermath of the French Revolution of 1848, which led to the abdication of King Louis-Philippe and the establishment of the Second French Republic. The Legitimistas sought to restore the monarchy and support the claim of the House of Orléans, which had been exiled during the revolution. They were opposed to the Third Republic, which was established in 1870 following the Franco-Prussian War. The Legitimistas movement was characterized by its conservative and reactionary ideology, and it played a significant role in French politics during the late 19th century. The movement eventually declined in the early 20th century, as the Third Republic became more stable and the monarchy was further discredited.
