Kvanttisisältöjen refers to the discrete packets or bundles of energy that electromagnetic radiation, such as light, is composed of. This concept is fundamental to quantum mechanics and revolutionized our understanding of light and matter interactions.

Historically, classical physics described light as a continuous wave. However, phenomena like the photoelectric effect and blackbody radiation could not be explained by this wave model. In 1900, Max Planck proposed that energy is emitted and absorbed in specific, quantized amounts, which he called quanta. He developed the equation E = hf, where E is the energy of a quantum, h is Planck's constant, and f is the frequency of the radiation. This indicated that energy is not infinitely divisible but comes in discrete units.

Albert Einstein further developed this idea in 1905, suggesting that light itself consists of these energy quanta, which he later termed photons. This particle-like nature of light, alongside its wave-like properties, is known as wave-particle duality. The concept of kvanttisisältöjen, or the quantization of energy, has since been extended to other physical quantities and is a cornerstone of quantum theory, explaining phenomena at the atomic and subatomic levels.
