Kleurverfrissing is a cosmetic treatment primarily used in haircare to refresh the color of already dyed hair between regular dye appointments. The goal is to restore vibrancy, correct dull or brass tones, and add shine without a full color reapplication. The term is common in the Dutch beauty industry and is often referred to as a gloss, glaze, or demi-permanent/color refresh.

The treatmenttypically uses semi-permanent or demi-permanent dyes, direct pigments or clear gloss products. These formulations deposit color rather than lift it, enhancing tone and depth or neutralizing unwanted undertones such as yellow or orange. A toner may be used to fine‑tune warmth or coolness, depending on the desired result and the existing base shade.

During a kleurverfrissing service, a consultation assesses the current color and hair condition. After patch testing if needed, the product is applied to mid-lengths and ends, sometimes with selective application to the roots to blend regrowth. Processing times vary from a few minutes to about 20–30 minutes, followed by rinsing, conditioning, and styling.

Results are typically less permanent than a permanent dye, lasting roughly 2–6 weeks depending on hair type, washing frequency, and product used. Maintenance includes using color-safe, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, minimal heat exposure, and scheduling follow-up refreshers as the color fades.

Limitations include that kleurverfrissing does not cover substantial color changes or significant root regrowth like a permanent color treatment. It is most effective for maintaining tone and shine in already colored hair, rather than changing the base shade.
