Ickefarligt is a Swedish term meaning not hazardous or not dangerous. In a regulatory context it indicates that a substance or mixture does not meet the criteria for classification as hazardous under the EU’s CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging). When a product is not classified as hazardous, its label typically does not carry hazard pictograms or H‑statements, and the Safety Data Sheet will note that the product is not hazardous. The designation helps consumers and workers quickly gauge risk during handling, storage, and use.

However, ickefarligt does not imply that a substance is completely safe. A product may still irritate skin or eyes, cause harm at high exposures, or present physical hazards under certain conditions. The absence of hazard classification does not remove general safety requirements such as avoiding ingestion, inhalation of dust or fumes, and using appropriate ventilation or protective equipment when appropriate. The term is often used for everyday substances like water or common salt, but it can also apply to mixtures that have been evaluated and found not to meet hazardous criteria.

In Sweden and other EU countries, ickefarligt is used on consumer packaging, safety information, and sometimes in waste classification. Relatedly, the term ickefarligt avfall refers to non-hazardous waste, though waste may become hazardous depending on its composition or concentration.

Regulatory oversight lies with national agencies (for example, Sweden’s Kemikalieinspektionen) within the framework of CLP, and product-specific safety data should be consulted for precise handling instructions.
