glomerulärt
Glomerulärt refers to anything related to the glomerulus, which is a tiny network of capillaries located at the beginning of a nephron in the kidney. The glomerulus is the primary site of filtration in the kidney. Blood enters the glomerulus through the afferent arteriole and is filtered under pressure. This process, known as glomerular filtration, separates waste products, excess water, and electrolytes from the blood, forming the initial filtrate. The remaining blood cells and large proteins remain in the bloodstream and exit through the efferent arteriole. The structure of the glomerulus, including its specialized filtration barrier, is crucial for efficient kidney function. Diseases affecting the glomerulus are known as glomerulonephritis, which can impair the kidney's ability to filter waste and can lead to kidney damage. Therefore, glomerular health is essential for maintaining overall kidney function and systemic homeostasis.
