elimm

Elimm is a title used to refer to the second king of the Mitanni, a Neo-Hittite kingdom that flourished during the Late Bronze Age in the Near East. Little information is available about Elimm's life and reign, but it is known that he succeeded his father Shuttarna II as king of Mitanni. The Mitanni were a group of people who originally came from the Balkans, but were later absorbed into the Hittite and Hurrian populations of the region.

Elimm is primarily known from a letter written by UNAPKA of Egypt to Suppiluliuma I of the Hittites, in which the Egyptian official refers to Elimm as a vassal king of the Hittite Empire. The letter is dated to the 14th century BC, during the reign of Suppiluliuma I, and suggests that Mitanni had become a satellite state of the Hittites. Elimm's name is also mentioned in the Egyptian Tale of Alabandacus, which is an ancient account of a war between the Egyptians and a group of Libyans and Mitanni.

Little is known about Elimm's military campaigns or diplomatic relations, but it is believed that he played a role in the tumultuous history of the region during the 14th century BC. The Mitanni kingdom eventually disintegrated, and their titles and royal names were incorporated into the official records of the Hittite and Egyptian empires. As a result, Elimm's legacy is largely restricted to the brief references in the records of these ancient powers.
