Baksteenstrips are thin, lightweight brick elements used to create a brick-like façade or interior wall without the weight and labor of traditional brickwork. They are fixed to a prepared substrate and can mimic the appearance of full brickwork or brick walls in a range of styles.

Materials and formats: They are typically manufactured as ceramic clay bricks, fired clay, concrete or composite panels. They come in strips or slips that cover standard wall heights. Thickness is relatively small compared with full bricks, commonly in the range of a few millimeters to a few centimeters, depending on system. Standard lengths vary, and joints between strips are designed to resemble real brickwork.

Installation: Substrate must be clean, dry, and flat. A suitable adhesive or mortar is applied to the back of the strips, which are pressed onto the surface in a running bond pattern. Some systems use mechanical fixings in addition to adhesive. Grout or sealant is applied in the joints, and curing time follows manufacturer guidelines. Temperature and moisture conditions are considered during installation.

Applications: Used for exterior façades to achieve a brick appearance, as interior feature walls, kitchens, lounges, or bathrooms. They are commonly chosen for renovations or projects seeking the look of brick with lighter weight and faster installation.

Maintenance and durability: Properly installed baksteenstrips are relatively low maintenance; cleaning with mild detergents and avoiding harsh pressure washing is advised. Durability depends on material and installation quality; interior use reduces weather-related concerns.
