Subfields within astrofizyka include observational astrophysics, theoretical astrophysics, cosmology, high-energy astrophysics, planetary science, and the study of exoplanets. Research topics range from star formation and stellar evolution to the dynamics of galaxies, dark matter and dark energy, black holes, and the physics of the early universe. Data are collected across the electromagnetic spectrum using ground-based and spaceborne telescopes and instruments, such as optical, infrared, radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray facilities. Computational methods, numerical simulations, and statistical analysis are essential tools in modern work.

Education and career paths typically involve undergraduate studies in physics or astronomy, followed by graduate work culminating in a PhD. Astrofizycy work in universities, research institutes (including national academies of sciences), astronomy observatories, and space agencies. They publish in scientific journals, apply for research funding, collaborate on international projects, and may engage with public outreach.
