alusühik

Alusühik is a term used in Estonian to refer to a base unit of measurement. These are fundamental and indivisible units within a system of measurement, from which all other units in that system can be derived. The most common system of base units is the International System of Units (SI).

In the SI system, there are seven base units: the meter (m) for length, the kilogram (kg) for mass, the second (s) for time, the ampere (A) for electric current, the kelvin (K) for thermodynamic temperature, the mole (mol) for amount of substance, and the candela (cd) for luminous intensity. These alusühikud are the foundation upon which all other SI units, known as derived units, are built. For example, the unit of force, the newton (N), is derived from base units of mass, length, and time (kg⋅m⋅s⁻²).
