Zaliczamy

Zaliczamy is a Polish verb form belonging to the imperfective verb zaliczać, with the corresponding perfective zaliczyć. It is the first person plural present tense, used to express that “we pass,” “we are passing,” or more generally “we count as having completed or met a requirement.” In everyday speech it often refers to successfully meeting a requirement, such as passing a test or exam, but it can also mean to count something toward a qualification or to credit an activity.

Etymology and related forms. The verb zaliczać comes from za- plus liczyć (to count, to reckon), with the prefix za- signaling completion or achievement. The related noun zaliczenie denotes a credit, passing grade, or acknowledgement that a requirement has been met. The perfective partner zaliczyć emphasizes the moment of completion and is used for future or completed actions.

Primary meanings and usage. The most common sense is passing an exam or test: zaliczamy egzamin means we are passing (or have passed) the exam. It can also mean to count toward a credit or requirement, as in zaliczamy praktyki to count an internship toward a program. In broader contexts zaliczać can indicate including something in a set or recognizing an achievement, for example, zaliczamy ten projekt do dorobku.

Grammatical notes. Zaliczamy is present tense and imperfective in aspect; it describes an ongoing or habitual action. For future, one typically uses either the imperfective future form (będziemy zaliczać) or the perfective future (zaliczymy) depending on the nuance and context.
