Wskanic

Wskanic is a town and municipality in Veridia, a fictional country in the Veridian Highlands. It is the administrative center of Wskanic District, located on the Loras River. The population was 9,200 in 2022, and the town covers 28 square kilometers. The historic core and surrounding residential neighborhoods make it a regional service center for the area.

The settlement dates to around 1100, with a name derived from the Veridian word for "watch." It grew as a regional market town in the late medieval period; industrial growth came in the 19th century with textiles; it gained municipal status in 1908; it survived wars with modest damage and later modernized infrastructure.

Wskanic sits in a gentle valley and has a temperate maritime climate; the area receives about 700 millimeters of precipitation per year. The landscape includes wooded hills to the southwest and cultivated fields to the east.

The economy centers on services, light manufacturing, and logistics, serving the nearby agricultural belt. Transportation infrastructure includes a regional rail line and national road. Veridia International Airport lies about 60 kilometers to the north, providing international connections.

Cultural life includes a Harvest Festival held each autumn. Landmarks include St. Mary’s Church (14th century) and the 19th-century Wskanic Town Hall. The town is home to the Wskanic University of Applied Sciences and a public library, with several local museums and clubs.
