Villefrac

Villefrac is a small town and commune in the fictional region of Valeron, within the Nordalia district. It serves as the administrative center of the Villefrac municipality. As of 2021, the population is about 7,200 residents.

The town lies along the Rolan River, about 40 kilometers southeast of the regional capital. The landscape is gently rolling, with vineyards on the southern slopes and oak forests to the north. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and cool winters.

Settlement evidence dates to the early medieval period. Villefrac received its town charter in 1223 and grew around milling and, later, railway access in the 19th century. The town preserved a historic core while expanding outward in the 20th century.

Local activity combines agriculture—apples and wine grapes—with light manufacturing and services. A weekly market attracts producers from nearby valleys. Tourism centers on the medieval town core, the riverside trails, and the Old Mill museum.

The center includes the Saint Marelle Cathedral, dating to the 13th century, and the Old Mill. The annual Harvest Festival features a street fair, parades, and traditional crafts. The townscape is known for timber-framed houses and stone lanes.

Villefrac is governed by a mayor and a 12-member town council. It covers roughly 25 square kilometers and is part of the Nordalia district. The town maintains twinning arrangements with two neighboring municipalities.

Notable people include painter Elise Verand and engineer Tomas Lero who are associated with Villefrac.
