Tuletisühik

Tuletisühik is an Estonian term that translates to "derivative unit" in English. It refers to a derived unit in the International System of Units (SI) that is formed by combining base SI units through multiplication, division, or exponentiation. Unlike base units, which are fundamental and not defined in terms of other units, derived units express relationships between physical quantities.

Examples of tuletisühikud include the Newton (N) for force, which is defined as kilogram meters per second squared (kg⋅m/s²), and the Watt (W) for power, defined as joules per second (J/s) or kilograms meters squared per second cubed (kg⋅m²/s³). The SI system comprises seven base units: the meter (m), kilogram (kg), second (s), ampere (A), kelvin (K), mole (mol), and candela (cd). From these base units, all other SI units, including the tuletisühikud, can be derived. The use of derived units simplifies the expression of complex physical relationships and ensures consistency in scientific and technical measurements worldwide.
