Semiabiertas

Semiabiertas is the feminine plural form of the Spanish term semiabierta, used to describe objects or concepts that are not completely open. In Spanish-language technical writing, the meaning depends on the discipline, but the common thread is an intermediate state between fully open and fully closed.

In linguistics, semiabiertas refers to a vowel height category between close (high) and open (low). A semiabierta vowel is produced with the tongue positioned between that of a close vowel and an open vowel, producing an intermediate acoustic quality. This category appears in some phonological analyses and language inventories to capture fine-grained distinctions among vowel heights, with its exact realization varying by language.

In mathematics, particularly topology and real analysis, semiabiertas describes a type of set that lies between open and closed. A subset A of a topological space is called semi-open if it is contained in the closure of its interior (A ⊆ cl(int(A))). Semiabiertas sets generalize the idea of half-open intervals, such as [a,b) in the real line with the standard topology, which is semi-open but neither open nor closed.
