Orientalist
An orientalist is a scholar or observer who studies the languages, histories, cultures, or societies of Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Historically, Orientalists were Western academics who engaged in fields such as philology, archaeology, anthropology, and literary studies to understand what was then called the “Orient.” The term can describe both individuals and the broader scholarly or cultural tradition associated with Western engagement with Eastern regions.
