Multimallet
Multimallet is a term used in percussion practice to describe a modular mallet system designed to extend a single performer’s striking options by incorporating multiple mallets on one setup. The concept enables simultaneous or rapid sequential strikes on different surfaces or keyboard percussion instruments, such as marimba, vibraphone, or xylophone, without requiring a hand to swap sticks.
Designs vary, but most multimallets feature a single primary grip or handle with two or more mallet
In use, players employ multimallets to execute chords, rapidly alternate notes across adjacent pitches, or strike
The multimallet concept has been explored in experimental and academic percussion circles and by instrument makers
